Babbling Brooks, Chapter 1.1

So it is time to start a new legacy, maybe to finally complete one in Sims 4. I have played around with them, never passing the 3rd generation because of either boredom or the death of the heiress from embarrassment. Having completed legacies in both Sims 2 (Trek Universe) and Sims 3 (Heavenly Stars), it is time to complete one in Sims 4. And, I want the Boolprop medal.

Sims 4 Legacy Rules

For me, the hardest part can be coming up with a theme that I can enjoy for 10 generations. I was able to locate a good list of names based upon the Harry Potter style of names, stumbled across a surname that immediately brought to mind a legacy title, and immediately had the founder’s name. This is a good sign as I can spend hours trying to name a sim.

Having just completed a Differences in the Family Tree challenge (Miles to Go) I do not want to enter this legacy with a bunch of rules and restrictions or targeted generations. The chosen heir/ess will determine what happens in their generation based upon their randomly generated traits.  I will be keeping score but won’t necessarily be trying to max the score out.

Gameplay Rules

All bloodline sims will be given the insane trait at the earliest point.  I will not be randomizing traits but will try to use all traits at least once during the legacy.

There are a few background mods I will be using:

  • Always Start Paused
  • Improved Lighting
  • No Intro
  • No Mosaic

Our lucky founder is Ariella Brooks. Ariella is Insane, Family-oriented, and Loves the outdoors. She will be starting off on the largest lot in Newcrest – Twin Oracle Point. While this is not the largest as required by the legacy, it is the one where I will start. Starting with §20,000 and buying her new lot for §8,500 will leave Ariella with §11,500. With the purchase of the Suit of Armor, Ariella is down to §3,300. She uses the money cheat to reduce that to §1,800 as required by the starting rules.

Now that Ariella is set up and ready to go, she has to decide what career she wants to pursue. Her aspiration is to have a Successful Lineage, an appropriate aspiration for a legacy founder., and adds Domestic to her traits. After carefully considering her options, Ariella accepts a position as a Lab Technician in the Scientific career. This will give her a chance to meet other scientists, create nifty gadgets, and begin collecting collectibles.

Ariella does not have to go to work until Monday at 10am, leaving her all day Sunday to check out her new home. Her first action is to create a special club called Inheriting Insanity. She isn’t sure how this works, but she has in mind a club for the legacy heirs along with random insane community members. The only requirement to join is to carry the Insane trait. The activities will change depending on what the current heir enjoys, and the current heir will always be the leader. Ariella’s club is going to be all about science activities – using the microscope, telescope, other science objects, rocket science, and the science table for the kids. The club hangout is any club member’s house.

When Ariella took the position in the science career, she was informed that she would be expected to come to work with two breakthrough ideas. Ariella decided to spend some time fishing to see if she could think of something.

Eureka! In addition to catching a treasure chest containing a cowplant berry, Ariella has her first breakthrough with an idea for a Momentum Conserver.  Ariella’s second breakthrough came with the idea for a Synthetic Food serum.

With her two breakthroughs ready for her first day of work, Ariella puts up her fishing pole and decides to see what collectibles are available around her neighborhood. By the time she makes it back to her still-empty lot, Ariella has added a fossil rock, kitchen upgrade part, three frogs, two mysterious time capsules, several lilies, and a couple of snapdragons.

With nature calling for urgent relief, Ariella decides it is time to spend her meager savings on some items for the “house”.   It is meager but should make do until she gets her first paycheck.

After a quick bowl of cereal, Ariella decides to head into town to meet some people. She finds a small café with lots of other sims to mingle with and has an enjoyable evening.

With a new job in the morning, Ariella calls it a night early and heads home for some sleep. Tomorrow is the beginning of a new life in Newcrest.
