Yadira the Swamp Witch, Chapter 1

It is time to play something different. So while I give the Drifters a short break, I am going to begin playing through the Story Starter Kits from Sims Community. The first one is the story of Yadira the Swamp Witch. This isn’t a legacy or a challenge, it is merely the story of Yadira. There aren’t any requirements to complete or rules to follow. Where Yadira’s story goes is truly up to her choices.

Yadira’s Back Story

Centuries ago, Yadira was in love with a young man and trusted him with all of her magical secrets but he betrayed her when he had an affair with Yadira’s jealous stepmother, who wanted Yadira’s eyes for a spell of eternal youth. On her stepmother’s orders, Yadira’s beloved lured her out into the swamplands where he plucked out her eyes and left her for dead in the bog’s wilderness. But the bog spirits saw what happened and were enraged by such an act of cruelty. The spirits dragged the man and Yadira’s stepmother into the depths of the swampy waters, never to be seen again. Although they could not fully restore Yadira’s lost sight nor mend her broken heart, they granted her the ability to see one’s true character in place of their physical appearance.

Forever scarred by the cruelty of mankind but eternally grateful for the spirits’ aid, Yadira stayed in the swamplands to care for the spirits’ natural home. She spends her days fishing in the swamp, experimenting with her cauldron, and tending to the potted plants she uses for her potion ingredients but so many years of solitude has caused her to lose touch with the outside world. While she does not hate anyone for what was done to her once upon a time, she’s mistrustful of strangers and isn’t above a bit of mischief to keep them out of her swamp.

But with her uncanny ability to see beyond the physical and into someone’s soul, maybe Yadira will one day find another she can truly trust.

Yadira Elmore is alone and has been alone for many years. She loves her little yurt and garden; she feels safe here. But the day has come where she needs to leave her protected home and venture to the magical realm. She needs supplies and tools that she cannot produce herself. She needs to talk with the sages about becoming a better and stronger witch. Her one true desire is to master every magical potion and maybe learn a few spells at the same time. After checking her inventory for her glimmerstone, she realizes just how long she has been hiding. So long, that she has no idea where the stone is. Somewhere over the centuries it has been lost.

Gathering her courage, Yadira heads out to the magical portal. She will have to walk to the magical realm but she should be able to obtain a new glimmerstone from one of the sages when she gets there.

Yadira wanders around the magical headquarters checking out the bookcases and waiting for the sages to arrive. She finds a few orbs that she sticks in her backpack. She doesn’t have a lot of simoleons to spend so anything she can get with a discount, she is going to take.

Simeon is the first sage she speaks with. He replaces her glimmerstone and after some coaxing teaches her a potion and a spell.

Then she runs into Morgyn and after some conversation, he also teaches her a potion and a spell.

Finally, she tracks down L. Faba. More conversation, another potion and a spell. Yadira is extremely tense now. She has been around other sims way too much today and she is ready to head home.

But first she stops at the shops in Casters Alley. She buys a wand and a mop to go with the three orbs she picked up and the three potions she was given and it is time to head home. As tense as being around other sims made her, it was a good day. One thing she realizes is that she is going to need an income for future purchases even though she has been able to survive alone for a long time. Times are changing and it is time she made some changes also.

When Yadira arrives back at her home she discovers a cat has moved in. That is how cats work – they just pick a place and say “I live here now”. Yadira welcomes Beata to the family and heads upstairs to order some cat supplies. Beata is curious, affectionate, and clever.

As a side note, both Beata and Yadira have been MCCC flagged as Do Not Age. Yadira has lived for centuries, she isn’t going to begin aging now. And Beata is a special magical cat so she will also never age. Neither are immortal so death can come for them in other ways.

The tension hangs on through the next day. Yadira is really out of practice with being around other sims. She spends time experimenting with her cauldron hoping to discover more potions on her own.

After tanking all of her needs experimenting, she finally drinks one of the sample she received from the sages. It restores all her needs to full and she is ready to continue experimenting and practicing. She did discover that her pond is not fishable. She will deal with that later.

I have been playing Sims since August 2005; a member, then a moderator, and now an admin of Boolprop.net since October 2006. My sister is the one that hooked me on Sims in the beginning. She had all of the original Sims games and one week while I was on vacation I took her games and started playing. That was the beginning of my obsession. I played Sims 1 for about a month and then decided to buy Sims 2. When Sims 3 was released I made the move and have never looked back. Now I am all in on Sims 4 and still loving it.
